Claims Specialist – Accident & Health

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a referral point for our external claims and assistance providers, ensuring claims are managed in line with Service Level Agreements and Liberty’s Claims Value Proposition
  • Using strong technical skills and prior customer service experience to deliver a superior claims experience to Liberty customers
  • Providing timely instructions to external service providers with respect to coverage, investigation and ultimate settlement of claims
  • Manage the overall quality and performance of external service providers
  • Participate in the coordination and execution of third party claims audits
  • Assist in updating and maintaining claim documentation, standards and procedures
  • Undertake thorough review of claims data and report on findings within the organisation
  • Ensure that internal and external stakeholders and Liberty clients consistently receive a high level of claims service that differentiates Liberty from its competitors.
  • Provide information to management on the existence or development of critical losses
  • Work closely with other business lines in raising the Liberty profile and assist in account retention and new business opportunities

Qualifications and Soft Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of previous claims management experience in Accident & Health. Previous exposure dealing with third party providers is highly desirable
  • Sound knowledge of the General Insurance Code of Practice and Insurance Contracts Act and demonstrated ability to understand and apply legal principles to the management of claims
  • Highly proficient relationship building skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with sound business acumen abilities
  • Excellent working knowledge of PC based systems and applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database systems for managing contacts, schedules and calendars is required
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline would be desirable

Senior Claims Specialist

Key responsibilities

  • Pro-actively manage a book of Professional and Financial Risk (PFR) claims, the focus will be on Cyber, D&O, Construction and PI. Manage these claims through the entire claim life cycle;
  • Conduct investigations, recommend adequate reserves, monitor, document, and settle/close claims in an expeditious and economical manner within prescribed authority limits;
  • Build sold working relationships and collaborate with internal stakeholders, legal professional and brokers, reinsurers and external service providers;
  • Participate directly in mediation and arbitration settlements;
  • Participating in audits as required;
  • Team orientated who contributes actively to team goals and works effectively with others;
  • Ensuring all compliance obligations are met.


Qualifications and Soft Skills

  • Preferably a Bachelor of Laws Degree with around 5 years post admission experience (or tertiary qualifications in Insurance, Business, Finance or other related discipline).
  • Significant previous professional and financial risks claims management experience in the Insurance or Legal industry essential, ideally with some experience in cyber Significant experience in successfully investigating and managing highly complex liability claims.
  • Ability to undertake contentious dialogue whilst maintaining a customer focused outlook;
  • Independent thinker with strong decision-making skills
  • Solution oriented with a strong commercial acumen
  • High level of communication and influencing skills required.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to interact at all levels.
  • Have well developed investigative and research skills.

About you

  • A minimum of 5 years, financial lines related underwriting experience in similar or related classes of business with a background in Professional Indemnity and Directors & Officers Liability preferred.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques, including, but not limited to coverage issues, product lines, marketing, and product competition within the marketplace.
  • Highly proficient relationship building skills.

The FRS team underwrite credit and political risks through Lloyd's of London and on Company insurance paper. These risks relate to non-payment and non-performance of private and public sector counterparties, and political perils such as expropriation or confiscation of assets by foreign governments, export embargo, forced abandonment, war etc. FRS clients are banks, corporates, trading companies, export credit agencies and multilaterals.
