At Liberty, our Veterans Matters Network plays an important role in how we support, connect and champion those with military experience, both within the business and beyond it. Alongside building an internal community, the network is also focused on creating meaningful opportunities for veterans to explore careers in insurance and better understand where their skills can make an impact.

One of the ways we bring this to life is through our veteran insight days. These events are designed to open the door into the industry by offering practical guidance, honest conversations and the chance to build connections with people across the business. For us as an employer, they are a valuable way to engage with a highly skilled talent pool. For attendees, they provide a clearer view of how their experience can translate into a commercial environment.

Our most recent insight day welcomed 30 participants and marked the fourth iteration of this event series.

Turning insight into opportunity

The structure of the day focuses on giving participants both context and confidence. Sessions cover the fundamentals of the insurance market and how Liberty fits within it, alongside more practical guidance such as CV writing and how to position experience effectively.

A key part of the experience is the opportunity to connect directly with hiring managers. These conversations allow attendees to ask questions, understand what teams are looking for, and explore where they might fit. It’s also where our colleagues can see, first-hand, the depth of the experience and potential that veterans bring.

Alongside this, we’ve continued to build out more structured entry points into the business. Our placement schemes, launched through the insight day, are designed to give participants the chance to gain hands-on experience and quickly demonstrate their capabilities in a commercial environment. It’s another route to help bridge the gap between potential and opportunity.

Why we continue to invest in this

Veterans bring a strong foundation of professionalism, resilience and leadership. They have a strong sense of responsibility; they work with diverse teams and operate in high-pressure environments. Many of them have already had experience of risk mitigation whether it be through military operations, managing supply chains or even more specialised roles such as tackling cyber risk.  This experience alongside their qualities and values don’t need reinventing, they need the right environment to be applied.

Our role, through the Veterans Matters Network and our insight days, is to make that transition easier. By creating access, building understanding and offering clear routes into the business.

We are not just attracting talent; we’re helping to set people up for success.
