Hail damage can affect any exposed property, especially vehicles, aircraft, roofs and roof-mounted equipment, such as air conditioners, vents, cooling towers, skylights and heating units. Hail can occur with any severe thunderstorm and, since such storms are often localised and develop very quickly, there may be less than an hour of advance warning. 

Some roof types are more vulnerable to hail damage than others, but a neglected roof of any type is perhaps most vulnerable of all. Being prepared in advance of a damaging hail storm involves knowing the type of roof on the premises and scheduling routine roof inspections as well as ad hoc inspections after high winds and storms – and knowing what to look for.
